I'm disabled. One of the main symptoms of which is constant and overwhelming fatigue. So, I need passive activities that don't take energy. Most people watch TV, but that's something I struggle with for the length of time I'm down. Video games provide a passive activity (i.e. restful) that also engages me actively. I probably play for three hours a day, though there were times a little while ago that I might have set out for a six hours session. In short, for me, gaming provides the same kind of engagement that television does for a lot of other people but without complete passivity. And given the level to which many watch TV - finishing a series in a day or weekend that would take me a month to watch at least - I'm not sure my current relationship with gaming is so different from the relationship most have with more passive screen-based activity.
